Oinkmaster is a sweet tool for updating Snort signatures, but it requires Perl (which isn't included in the base PacketProtector install).
To get around this a shell script (ghetto_oinkmaster.sh) to emulate some of Oinkmaster's basic functionality is available.
First, get an Oinkmaster Download Code from snort.org.
Then download the script and update the OINKCODE variable at the top of the script.
The script updates signatures based on the following templates-
